LGBT World Beside, with the generous financial support of TRUT Funds, hosted a special Christmas evening, known as “Kerstborrel,” in Amsterdam on December 16, 2023, catering to LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees from post-Soviet countries currently residing in the Netherlands. The event was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, unity, and celebration, drawing the participation of over 80 individuals. To ensure inclusivity, the organizers also provided a limited number of train tickets for attendees residing outside Amsterdam. This marked the second installment of the “Kerstborrel” organized by LGBT+ World Beside.
A distinctive celebration and prizes were reserved for the 18 individuals who secured residency in the Netherlands this year. This special acknowledgement aimed to commemorate this significant milestone and underscore our commitment to being an inclusive and supportive community. The event also featured a brief informational session where Rainer Oborin, a psychologist, conducted specialized training on gender and transgender issues.
The evening’s highlight was undoubtedly the entertainment, featuring engaging games. Over 30 participants formed five groups to compete in a quiz game, bringing about an atmosphere of friendly competition and camaraderie. The victorious teams were rewarded with memorable prizes, contributing to an evening of laughter and bonding.
Looking ahead, LGBT World Beside expressed its commitment to continuing the tradition of organizing Kerstborrel for the Russian-speaking LGBT+ community in the Netherlands in the coming years. This event stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity, acceptance, and celebration within our diverse and vibrant community.
