On February 27, 2025, two members of LGBT World Beside had an amazing opportunity to be a part of Queer PechaKucha Night in Utrecht at Vila Concordia — an event honoring the vibrant creative voices from the LGBTQ+ community. The event aimed to showcase several creative stories and artistic contributors representing their queer identity in a truly unique space.
One of our project managers had been invited to take the stage to represent the story of LGBT World Beside. In a very emotional presentation, she told the story of LGBT World Beside's early days, the challenges of starting an organization from nothing, and the beautiful work of community building. She expressed how this coming together has made LGBT World Beside a safe haven for LGBTQ+ refugees in need of support, discourse, and community.
The PechaKucha format, where a presenter uses 20 slides for 20 seconds each, provided a dynamic way not only to share our mission but also how our individual stories founded LGBT World Beside. It further explained the importance of community, underscored the strength shared experiences with those who understand what such a journey entails, and illuminated the drive of collective power within our members for positive transformations.
We are grateful for the warm reception we received at Queer PechaKucha Night, and for the chance to connect with fellow activists, artists, and advocates. The evening was a powerful affirmation of our shared commitment to inclusivity, equality, and the power of storytelling. We are excited to continue participating in spaces like these, where we can amplify our voices, share our experiences, and strengthen the bonds that make us stronger as a community.
